The Seven Blessings of Reading Revelation – hope, love and peace

Seven Blessings of Revelation - Introduction

Seven Blessings Introduction

There are seven blessings found in the book of Revelation, and God makes it clear that the reader is blessed when reading this book.

Revelation 1:3: “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.”

Dear Reader,

Thank you for your interest in this article. May it bless you and may God bless you as you pursue Him, His purpose for you as you walk in obedience with Him.

Fear and Confusion

If you are someone who is either afraid of reading the book of Revelation, or if you are confused by the imagery which may bring fear and anxiety, then this is for you. Let me assure you that you are not alone! All too often, people avoid reading both the Book of Revelation and any biblical prophecy.

Why?

The reasons are varied and often very personal, but commonly it is because of either poor experience with it, the anxiety such study brought, or simply the confusion experienced in trying to understand what John and the other prophets relayed to us, under the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

I am one who believed that reading Revelation, or any prophecy, was irrelevant to my life, as a believer. I truly believed I didn’t need to know any of it, for God’s will would be done in my life, and because I was a believer, I would go to heaven.

My View of Long Ago

I wrote a thesis on this twenty-three years ago, and it went like this:

I believe that the ‘End Times’, when it occurs and how it takes place, is of no significance on my life here on earth. I believe Christ will one day return. I believe there will be a resurrection of the dead, judgment, and an eventual eternity. An eternity where we get to live in community with God the Father, Jesus Christ, His Son, and the Holy Spirit. Whether there will be a thousand-year reign of Christ on earth or if we go directly to heaven is irrelevant to me now. What is important to me is to be obedient to God’s call in my life, and to serve faithfully out of my love for Him.’

Well, let me tell you, I was WRONG!

God in his mercy has shown me that I was wrong, but He has done it so gently! Just like a father teaching a young and oblivious child, He has taken me in His arms and shown me the TRUTH. On this journey, I have been extremely blessed, and those same blessings are available to you as well. They are for everyone!

Yes, God tells us that reading Revelation will bring blessings to those who read it. Let me assure you, those blessings are far wider and all-encompassing than you or I can imagine, and not just a pat on the head, to say, good job. No! God’s blessings are eternal and immutable, just like He is. They reflect His character and His purposes for us, His children.

Seven Blessings, Prophesies Bring Joy and Peace

In addition, as I’ve studied both Revelation and God’s prophecies related to the End Times, and I have found joy, peace, and hope. These are also available to you if you just follow God’s instructions. So, read and study such materials, allowing God’s Holy Spirit to guide you into His righteousness, peace and joy. You will receive amazing blessings. Trust God, and He will transform you, transform your mind and your life.

Scripture Builds Faith

As Dr. David Jeremiah says, “You will see not only how God’s word offers insights into the future, but also how Scripture builds faith through the events of the past and encouragement in the uncertainty of the present.[i]” Yet in another book, Escape the Coming Night, Dr. Jeremiah reiterates the blessings that come from reading Revelation, “This is the only book in the Bible that promises special blessing for those who study it.[ii]It is my hope that such wisdom, from such a well-respected teacher and preacher, should give you comfort as you read on.

If I could, I would like to encourage you to pray as preparation and to allow the Holy Spirit to help you in your understanding when reading and studying God’s Word.

Prayer

Your prayer can be something like this: Lord, I ask You to open my eyes and enhance my understanding so that I can grasp what You want me to learn today. I also ask You to enable me, by Your Spirit, to apply the truths I learn to my daily life, and be guided moment by moment by Your Word. I pray and thank you in Jesus’ name. Amen.[iii]

This prayer references the following scripture verses.

Psalms 119:18 Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. (NIV)

Psalms 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (NIV)

2 Timothy 3:15-17 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (NIV)

So, as a child of God, and as a start to a journey of revelation, take a few minutes and study the blessings of God found in the Book of Revelation.

May God Bless You!

Jana
